With looks of deep concentration on their faces, visitors of NEXT no.5 were sitting on our Mind Chair, trying to direct their perception from feeling to seeing.
The NEXT no.5 conference and exhibition in Aarhus, Denmark was hosted by Innovation Lab and presented mind-blowing examples of current and future thoughts and objects. Beta Tank was there with a mobile lab inviting people to attempt to see with their backs. Simple geometric shapes were picked up by a camera and sent into the solenoid banks in the back of the chair.
To our delight, a few people managed to see these shapes (despite the short training period and the public setup).
Young people were especially good at perceiving the visual information through their skin.
But also adults like Mads Thimmer, Innovation Lab's CEO, started seeing them.
People who are visually impaired travelled to Aarhus to try the Mind Chair.
